Gastric Balloon

Gastric balloon surgery may be used as a treatment for obesity or in conjunction with other weight loss treatments, such as exercise and diet. It may be performed in the early stages of weight loss when there is a high risk of complications from obesity-related medical problems. Gastric balloon surgery is generally not performed in patients with a body mass index (BMI) of over 50. It is an option for patients who have not had a previous weight loss surgery and have a BMI of 30–40.
