Root canal treatment procedure that involves removing diseased tissue, filling the root canals with gutta-percha or another material, and then sealing the canal using a permanent filling. The main goal of the treatment is to remove the diseased tissue and seal the area so that the tooth can heal completely. An RCT is performed as a root canal treatment when a tooth is infected with disease. This is called periapical periodontitis and is caused by a combination of pressure from the periodontal tissues against the root surface, an abnormal inflammatory response to bacteria in the mouth, and bacteria entering the root canal through an opening in the tooth called the apical foramen. Symptoms may include pain, tooth mobility, and a change in the colour of the tooth.
