Rhinoplasty

The procedure is used for cosmetic, medical, or reconstructive purposes to correct nasal deformities. Nasal deformities can be due to birth defects, injury, or genetic conditions. They can also be related to certain facial or sinus conditions, which are best treated separately. During rhinoplasty, the nasal bones, cartilages, and soft tissues of the nose are removed and reshaped to create a more normal-looking nose. In addition to restoring a normal shape, rhinoplasty can be used to straighten the nose, narrow the nostrils, and improve breathing through the nose. Rhinoplasty is also used to correct the appearance of a nose that is too large, too large, or irregular in shape, as well as a crooked nose. There are three types of rhinoplasty.

Open Rhinoplasty

This rhinoplasty procedure involves a combination of an external incision and an internal incision. The external incision is the surgical incision through the skin and cartilage. The internal incision is made within the nose to expose the nose bones, cartilages, and supporting tissues. These incisions are made along the middle portion of the nose, along the sides, and in the bridge of the nose. The nasal bones and tissues are removed. The nose is then straightened and the cartilages reshaped to make the nose longer, wider, and more symmetrical in appearance. The nostrils are narrowed and/or enlarged as needed to increase breathing. In some cases, the upper, lower, or both nostrils are enlarged.

Closed Rhinoplasty

This rhinoplasty procedure involves a combination of an external incision and a closed incision. The external incision is the surgical incision through the skin and cartilage. The internal incision is closed, and any additional incisions for the nose are closed. The nose is then straightened and the cartilages reshaped to make the nose longer, wider, and more symmetrical in appearance. The nostrils are narrowed and/or enlarged as needed to increase breathing. If necessary, the upper, lower, or both nostrils may be enlarged.

Surgically Assisted Rhinoplasty

This rhinoplasty procedure involves a combination of an external incision and a closed incision.
